Interstitial cystitis, or "IC" as it is most commonly referred to, is a bladder condition often made up of several symptoms. Most IC patients have recurring pelvic pain, pressure, or discomfort in the bladder and pelvic region, and urinary frequency (needing to go often) and urgency (feeling a strong need to go). It's a miserable condition affecting millions of Americans, primarily women.
I just discharged a 53 year old woman who had come to see me with horrible pelvic pain, urinary frequency and urgency of over two decades duration, literally half her life. Using a series of Feldenkrais Method treatments, I was able to "reset" the neurologic input into the bladder and pelvis area, and relieve her pelvic pain and bladder symptoms in about 2 weeks. This woman went from being disabled by IC, to now being able to sleep through the night without having to get up to urinate. And now when she urinates, she empties the bladder completely and without pelvic pain and cramping.
